What our families say, in their own words.
Every child's progress is their own. We are lucky to be part of it.
Firefly is a young practice. The clinician is not. Liz Tchurekow is an ASHA-certified, Virginia-licensed speech-language pathologist with years of pediatric experience. The stories below are illustrative, the kind of thing families have told us in early conversations and that we expect to hear in their own words soon. As real family stories come in, we replace these with the originals, with permission and full names. If you have worked with us and want to share, we would be honored.
The reason we keep doing this.
Sessions feel like playtime to our son. But we have watched his words blossom every week. He is more confident, more social, and actually looks forward to speech therapy.
We never felt like a number. Everything was built around our daughter. Her interests. Her pace. Her goals. The strategies they gave us for home changed the way we talk as a family.
Our son is autistic, and he thrives with people who really see him. From day one, therapy was built around how he communicates, not how someone else thought he should. That changed everything.
Virtual sessions saved us. Our schedule is packed and being able to log in from home is the only reason we have been consistent. Our daughter's reading has come a long way.
Thoughtful, patient, and genuinely kind. The communication with us as parents has been as valuable as the therapy itself. We feel like we finally know what to do on a Tuesday.
Our teenager was nervous about starting therapy. Now she looks forward to it. The focus on real conversation, real social moments, has changed her confidence in and out of school.
We would love to hear it.
If you have worked with us, even briefly, and you have a few words about what the work was like, we would be honored to share them. Permission, attribution, and use are 100% on your terms.
