A speech therapist who actually has time for your child.
A solo, founder-led pediatric speech-language practice based in Virginia. Built on attention, depth of evaluation, and one stubborn belief: every kid deserves a plan made just for them.

A real headshot is coming. For now, the monogram. We would rather show you Liz on the 15-minute call than rush a stock photo.
Care built around your kid, not a worksheet.
Firefly Therapy Services is a pediatric speech-language practice for kids birth to 18, founded by Liz Tchurekow, M.S., CCC-SLP, a Syracuse University-trained speech-language pathologist. Every plan we write starts with a structured evaluation, what your child can already do, where they are getting stuck, and what the research says will help. From there, a plan that fits your kid, your family, and your week.
Our approach is personalized, evidence-based, and child-centered, with a focus on each child's unique strengths, needs, and goals.
Autism is a core part of our work. We support communication, connection, and play in a way that respects how your child already communicates, whether they are gestalt language processors, scripting, AAC-using, or fully verbal. We also work with kids who are hard to understand, kids whose receptive or expressive language is behind their friends', and kids who can read the words on the page but cannot quite tell you what they read.

I believe all children have a desire to learn; we have to find their individual style of learning to ensure their success.
Structured. But it looks like play.
Sessions are structured but they look like play. We use the activities your child is already drawn to, games, books, songs, real-life scenes, to get more reps on the goal of the week. The goal is not just what happens in our session. It is what happens at the dinner table, in the car, at recess.
Therapy works best when it is not just our hour a week. We work alongside you, your child's caregivers, and the other professionals in your child's life, so the strategies we use in session show up everywhere your child is. The goal: a kid who walks into kindergarten, the playground, the classroom, the cafeteria, with the words and the confidence to be themselves.
- Every plan is built for one specific kid, with measurable goals
- Sessions look like play. Underneath, we are working on the specific goal of the week.
- Parents are not the audience. Parents are part of the team.
- What we work on in session shows up at the dinner table
A partnership from your first message.
From the first message through every session, we work alongside you. Therapy is the kid's. The partnership is yours and ours.
A real conversation
We talk about your child, what you are noticing, and whether Firefly is the right fit. We ask the kind of questions a screening clinician asks. If we are not the right fit, we will tell you.
A real evaluation
A structured evaluation of speech, language, and communication. We look at what your child can already do, where they are getting stuck, and what the research says will help. The plan we write is the plan we mean.
Sessions kids stay in
In-person or virtual, sessions are structured but feel like play. Activities are built around the things your child is already drawn to, so we get more reps on the goal without the meltdown.
What travels home with you
After every session you get one or two specific strategies to try this week, with the clinical reasoning behind each one. The goal is the long-term one. Confidence, effective communication, and the skills that support success well beyond our hour together.
Wonder if we are the right fit? Let us tell you on a 15-minute call.
Tell us a little about your child. We get back within 1 to 2 business days. If a 15-minute call makes sense, we set one up. The call is a clinical screening, not a sales call.
